Some politicians in Washington and in state capitals around the country continue to attack the rights of millions of America who play poker online and millions more who play poker live.
In 2006, Congress passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) that equated online poker players with terrorists and international criminals. They attacked online poker and tried to take away our right to play. But they failed. Millions of Americans continue to play on unlicensed and unregulated sites where there are no government protections against cheating, identity theft or online fraud.
Washington politicians even threatened to make it a FEDERAL CRIME for YOU to play online. That would give Federal agents the right to enter your home, confiscate your computer, violate the privacy of your banking and financial records and subject you to Federal prosecution and criminal penalties just for exercising your right to play online poker.
But now, some enlightened political leaders around the country, supported by Poker Voters of America, are trying to remedy this dangerous situation by legalizing online poker as the best way to protect players and our right to play.
